North Dakota's House of Representatives has advanced a resolution urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling that legalized same-sex marriage across the U.S. This move follows similar resolutions in other states and reflects ongoing debates over LGBTQ+ rights. The resolution, primarily driven by Republican Rep. Bill Tveit, argues against same-sex marriage based on reproduction capabilities, a stance increasingly rejected by the public. Although the resolution lacks legal force, it signals rising tensions around marriage equality in various state legislatures.
"As you are well aware, two cannot conceive or birth a child except for coming together of a female and a male," Tveit told his fellow lawmakers.
"If same-sex couples desire a collaborative union of a sort or a legal bonding, they must call it anything but marriage," Tveit added.
