BMW AG is recalling nearly 700,000 vehicles in China due to defects in coolant pumps, affecting both locally-produced and imported models, which may lead to corrosion and fire risks.
This recall coincides with a significant drop in deliveries in China, the company’s largest market, where shipments fell by 30% in Q3, marking BMW's worst performance in over four years.
The recall follows BMW's recent profit warning linked to another extensive recall of 1.5 million vehicles globally due to defective braking systems, which is estimated to cost nearly €1 billion.
Affected models include the locally-made 3 Series and 5 Series, and several imported X Series SUVs, with repairs anticipated to take around three hours and vehicles in Europe unaffected.
