Forest Park police reported that four victims were found on the CTA Blue Line train after a 911 call alerted them to the incident at 5:27 a.m. Three were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth victim died later at the hospital, highlighting the urgent and tragic nature of the event.
"A weapon was recovered," said Forest Park Deputy Chief Chris Chin, confirming the apprehension of a suspect fleeing the scene and describing the incident as isolated, which offers some reassurance to the public amid the tragedy.
The CTA expressed deep concern over the act of violence on a public transit train, emphasizing that despite being isolated, such incidents should never occur, reflecting the ongoing challenges of maintaining safety in public spaces.
"We commend both the Forest Park Police Department for their thorough and collaborative efforts... as well as the Chicago Police Department whose quick actions led to the apprehension of a suspect in this matter," illustrating the importance of teamwork in addressing crime.
