A Chicago Cocktail Institution Will Have New Owners on St. Patrick's Day
Briefly

Jeff Hoffman, owner of Village Tap, is taking over Weegee's Lounge in Logan Square, promising to retain its nostalgic 1940s charm. Under his ownership, crucial elements like lack of TV and emphasis on hospitality will remain unchanged. The previous owners, Huebner and Marrs, known for their strong cocktails since 2006, will pass down recipes to Hoffman, who plans to enhance the drink menu while preserving local beer offerings. This transition aims to combine the strengths of both establishments, maintaining quality and community connection.
"Weegee's is just that perfect neighborhood tavern and the beauty about that is we don't have to change anything," Hoffman says.
"Alex is providing me with his shoebox full of recipes and we might expand with some more cocktails."
"I think they have some of the best cocktails in the city," Hoffman says, referring to the previous owners' contribution.
"It's one of the few bars left that doesn't have a TV and we'll keep that the same, as well as the focus on great hospitality."
