Why the price of Hawaii coffee is about to go up
Briefly

Hawaii's famous Kona coffee has been misrepresented for years; current laws allow products containing just 10% Hawaiian coffee to claim the Kona label, misleading consumers.
Representative Nicole Lowen stated, "For too long, we have allowed products that are 90-percent imported coffee beans to use the Kona name and reputation for profit at the expense of farmers."
The recently signed bill raises the minimum percentage of Hawaii-grown coffee in Kona coffee products to 51% by 2027, a significant step for transparency in coffee labeling.
Despite some opposition calling for a 100% requirement for Kona labeling, the law represents a substantial victory for Hawaiian coffee farmers after decades of misleading practices.
