Data analysts still heavily reliant on spreadsheets
Briefly

A recent Alteryx study involving 1,400 data analysts revealed that while 70% believe AI enhances their productivity, 76% still predominantly use spreadsheets for data preparation. This reliance raises concerns over potential inaccuracies and inefficiencies, as 45% dedicate over six hours weekly to data cleaning. Nevertheless, 94% of analysts see their roles as increasingly strategic, influencing decision-making processes. Interestingly, only 17% express worry about AI replacing their jobs, a staggering drop from previous years, reflecting a growing acceptance of AI's role in their profession.
This ongoing dependency on manual data manipulation can create inefficiencies and, more importantly, inaccuracies - which, given AI's dependency on data, could threaten the quality of AI output.
A lot of time goes into manual data preparation. 45 per cent of data analysts spend more than six hours each week cleaning up data.
Seventy percent of analysts believe that AI and automation make them more effective in their work, indicating a shift towards a more strategic role.
Only 17 percent of analysts surveyed are concerned that AI will take over their jobs, showcasing a significant decrease in job security fears since 2024.
