Architrip's LAB is a newly completed commercial facility in Fukushima City, thoughtfully designed to harmonize with two existing buildings. Spanning 89 sqm, it features a retail area on the ground floor and an office on the second. The design responds to the architectural styles of its neighbors, creating a seamless spatial relationship. Key aspects include a transition space at the entrance, exposed wooden beams, and high-side windows that enhance natural lighting. The composition of the three structures creates a coherent yet distinct architectural narrative, offering both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
The design challenge was to establish a third shop that complements both buildings while maintaining a cohesive spatial relationship.
The third shop incorporates semi-exterior spaces and wood as key design elements to establish continuity within the site.
High-side windows allow natural light to fill the interior, enhancing spatial openness and visual continuity with the semi-exterior areas of the neighboring shops.
A private balcony in the second-floor office reinforces a sense of connection between the three structures.
