The Studio Behind Some of the Best Strategy Games of All Time Wants to Remaster Its Classics
Briefly

Relic Entertainment, known for iconic strategy games like Company of Heroes and Dawn of War, is exploring opportunities to revive classic titles after becoming independent. Following a history marked by acquisitions, including being bought by THQ and Sega, Relic has now redefined its strategy post-separation from Sega. CEO Justin Dowdeswell indicated a focus on bringing beloved games back to market through remasters or new experiences that honor their originals. This comes amid a challenging economic landscape that has necessitated restructuring and layoffs within the studio.
In an interview with GameDeveloper.com, Relic CEO Justin Dowdeswell said the studio intends to "explore opportunities" to bring its classic titles to modern audiences.
After splitting from Sega last year, Relic has now announced its new business strategy - and a big part of that could include bringing back those beloved games.
Relic has a long and complicated history, starting with the release of its debut game, Homeworld, in 1999, which is considered one of the greatest strategy games of all time.
When Sega sold Relic to itself, it resulted in over 40 layoffs at the studio, prompting the need to 'streamline' and focus on their strengths for the future.
