The European Union has designated adult content website XNXX as subject to the strictest level of content regulation under the bloc's Digital Services Act (DSA) after it notified the bloc it had passed the usage threshold of more than 45 million regional average monthly users.
The EU aims to enforce age verification on popular platforms hosting adult content like XNXX, Pornhub, Stripchat, and XVideos to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate content.
Designated platforms like XNXX are required to comply with an extra set of obligations under the DSA, focusing on algorithmic accountability, transparency, risk assessments, and protecting users online.
XNXX has four months to become compliant with the rules for Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) under the DSA, with requirements including age verification and providing access to data to researchers.
