Dan Siegel was a dedicated litigator for over 50 years, focusing on employment, discrimination, and civil rights law. He defended clients against a variety of institutions, winning numerous cases and gaining a reputation as the ultimate advocate. Siegel frequently took pro bono cases out of a sense of justice and compassion for individuals facing systemic challenges. He remained involved in legal work until his death at age 79 on July 2 in Oakland, where he was also recognized for his political activism and contributions to community policing efforts.
"Over half a century, Siegel took on hundreds of cases, defending his clients against employers, police departments, universities, and government agencies, carving out a successful practice in employment, discrimination, and civil rights law."
"He did much of this work pro bono, taking on cases simply because he felt in his bones the righteousness of a cause and he couldn't stand to see a person go up against the system on their own."
