Jim Donatell pointed out that the reduction in crime shouldn’t be credited to the mayor’s efforts but rather to the CHP's increased presence, stating, "If it wasn't for the governor, we wouldn't be seeing this 33% reduction because our police staff is cut to the bone." He feels the mayor is taking undue credit for the work and impact of others.
Donatell also remarked on the political shift within the Oakland City Council, noting, "It seems like maybe the pendulum is swinging a little bit from the left to maybe back to the center," indicating a potential future support for law enforcement.
