Guy Fieri loved this Berkeley restaurant. It's closing after 36 years.
Briefly

After 36 years of serving the Berkeley community, Rick & Ann's Restaurant will permanently close on August 3, following owner Ann Lauer's retirement. Known for its distinctive breakfast offerings, including potato-cheese pancakes and colorful hash, the restaurant became a cherished gathering spot for locals, tourists, and Cal students alike. The closure comes as Lauer's lease is ending, although there's interest in possibly maintaining its beloved menu under new management. Lauer reflects on the emotional ties with patrons, many of whom have been lifelong customers, marking the significance of the restaurant's closure.
Lauer said she remembers holding those kids in her arms when they were babies. "That's the hard part about closing," she said. "I've seen so many of these people since they were born. I used to carry them around the restaurant when I was working."
In addition to an impending retirement, Rick & Ann's lease is ending, Lauer told SFGATE in a phone interview. Interested parties have reached out to take over, possibly even retaining the Rick & Ann's menu but not the name.
