Sheriff Kory Honea reported the two injured boys, aged 5 and 6, were critically wounded in the shooting at Feather River Adventist School during an apparent targeted attack.
After the meeting with the principal, screams erupted and gunfire broke out outside, which was described as shocking given the cordial nature of the prior appointment.
Authorities are investigating whether the shooter’s visit was a ruse to access the school, potentially motivated by a hate crime based on the school's religious affiliation.
Despite the gunman having a peaceful interaction with school staff before the attack, the threats necessitated increased police presence at other local Adventist schools.
