Common App has announced its first-ever inclusion of community colleges, expanding its membership to seven Illinois institutions. Four colleges are joining immediately, while the remaining three will join next admissions cycle. This move aims to enhance college access, focusing on aiding low- and middle-income students amidst recruitment challenges faced by community colleges. The inclusion of associate degree-only institutions marks a significant shift for Common App, which has previously primarily featured institutions offering baccalaureate degrees alongside associate programs.
In the press release, Common App CEO Jenny Rickard said she hoped the move would help promote college access and ease struggling community colleges' recruitment efforts.
Common App has a few members that technically include community colleges, like Miami-Dade College in Florida, but those institutions also offer baccalaureate degrees.
