Principal Mark Varvas informed parents and guardians that Silverthorn Collegiate Institute was locked down after reports of gunfire. He assured them that the safety and well-being of students is the top priority.
Toronto police confirmed that 120 people were inside during the incident, split between those attending a basketball game and those preparing for an open house.
Duty Senior Officer Saleem Husain reported that two masked individuals brought a firearm into the school, but thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The Toronto police's guns and gangs unit has taken on the investigation and encouraged anyone with video evidence to come forward.
