"For my older son this was good news, but for us, it rang a lot of [alarm] bells. We'll have to wait for the next semester to see what will be taught instead," Anas Joudeh, founder of the Nation Building Movement, reflected cautiously on recent changes to the curriculum.
"This is a problem. Actually, this is a disaster," Joudeh expressed concerns about potential curricula changes under HTS, fearing a shift towards their ideological slant similar to Assad's regime.
The transitional education minister, Nazir al-Qadri, noted that explanations were simply to remove content glorifying Assad, yet changes like redefining 'defending the nation' to 'defending Allah' illustrate a stark ideological shift.
Under the new curriculum, the idea of martyrdom transitioned from a patriotic sacrifice to one done 'for the sake of God,' highlighting a significant transformation in educational themes in post-Assad Syria.
