Martin Keown, an Arsenal legend, expresses astonishment at Leicester City's unexpected Premier League title win in 2016, reflecting on the vast differences he experienced while at both clubs. After his departure from Arsenal, where he won the league unbeaten, Keown joined a struggling Leicester side in 2004/05, highlighting the challenges faced. He contrasts his time at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger with Leicester's historic achievement, asserting that this triumph stands just below Arsenal's Invincibles season in the league's history.
When I was there [in 2004/05], if you'd told me Leicester would win a Premier League title before Arsenal, I would've called you a raving lunatic.
The club was so far away from being at the level it needed to be at. Every morning, I'd go to the toilet and there'd be a cigarette butt down the loo and a lighter.
It was a very different experience, having come from Arsenal and Arsene Wenger. But for them to go on and win the Premier League 12 years later? That achievement has to be right up there.
Highlighting that Invincibles campaign, Keown believes it’s the Premier League’s greatest achievement.
