North Macedonia nightclub fire death toll hits 60 as burn victim dies
Briefly

The deadly nightclub fire in North Macedonia has now claimed 60 lives after a critically injured victim succumbed to injuries. The incident, which occurred during a pyrotechnics display, injured nearly 200 people and led to investigations and arrests of multiple officials for safety violations. The public response includes protests in both North Macedonia and Greece, demanding accountability. The government has shut down numerous nightclubs in response, amidst criticism from the opposition and growing citizen discontent over safety management in entertainment venues.

The blaze on 16 March - which killed mostly young revellers and left nearly 200 people injured - broke out when a pyrotechnics display triggered a fire.
Thirty-four people are in custody over the fire, including an ex-finance minister and seven senior police officers.
Authorities in the small Western Balkan nation of about 1.8 million people said last month that they had shuttered dozens of nightclubs and entertainment venues following the blaze.
