Public sentiment in Sweden toward adopting the Euro has shifted, with 32% supporting the idea, the highest level since 2009. This change may stem from heightened geopolitical instability, driving a desire for stronger ties within the EU. Researcher Daniel Jansson notes that the survey data, gathered during a challenging economic period, suggests that attitudes could further shift positively by autumn. Additionally, the current favorable performance of the Swedish krona compared to its previous state might influence public opinion on currency stability and adoption.
In that kind of situation you want to join other institutions, for example the EU, as a kind of counterweight," research communicator Daniel Jansson, from the SOM institute, told Ekot.
The data presented here was collected in autumn and winter, before Donald Trump was sworn in as president and before the increased political instability we've seen during the spring.
My guess is that we'll be even more positive towards the EU in the next survey in the autumn.
The SOM institute has carried out a national survey each year since 1986 looking at a wide range of different topics.
