Europe bets on RISC-V for homegrown supercomputing platform
Briefly

The DARE project, initiated by a consortium of 38 tech entities in Europe, focuses on creating RISC-V-based processor units for supercomputers and high-performance applications. Backed by €240 million from the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and led by specialists in chip design, the project is set to develop three distinct chiplets: a vector-math accelerator, a next-gen inference chiplet, and a general-purpose processor. This initiative signifies Europe’s commitment to achieving digital autonomy in processing technology as it strives to bolster its supercomputing infrastructure alongside global advancements.
DARE is daring to start from the top of the technological complexity pole and produce European-designed processors chips for supercomputers, paving the way for Europe's digital sovereignty.
The DARE project, with backing from EuroHPC and led by various European tech entities, aims to develop RISC-V chiplets to enhance the continent's computational capabilities.
