Strava, a fitness app founded in 2009, has gained notoriety for revealing the locations of public figures through GPS tracking by their personal security details.
An investigation by Le Monde revealed that US Secret Service agents, while off duty, used Strava, leading to unintentional disclosures about the movements of top officials.
The French security group GSPR and Russian FSO members were also found to have profiles on Strava, raising international security concerns about the app's misuse.
Strava has faced scrutiny before; in 2018, it inadvertently exposed sensitive military locations in Syria and Afghanistan by showcasing fitness activities in those areas.
