France: Grenade thrown into Grenoble bar injures several DW 02/13/2025
Briefly

In Grenoble, France, a grenade attack at a bar injured more than ten people, some seriously, raising safety concerns. The incident occurred in the Olympic Village neighborhood, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Authorities, including Grenoble's Mayor Eric Piolle, condemned the attack, labeling it an 'act of extreme violence' potentially linked to drug trafficking rather than terrorism. Investigators are searching for the suspect, who reportedly fled the scene armed with a Kalashnikov rifle. Government officials have expressed support for the victims and commend the quick actions of rescue teams.
I condemn in the strongest possible terms the criminal act of unprecedented violence that took place in a shop in the Olympic Village district, which caused more than 10 injuries, several of them serious.
There's nothing to make us think it's linked to terrorism, calling it an act of extreme violence that may be linked to a settling of scores.
Someone came in and threw a grenade, apparently without saying a word, and ran away.
Investigators are looking at a possible link to drug trafficking, adding that some accounts indicated the suspect was also in possession of a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
