Germany calls on Syria to avoid 'spiral of violence' DW 03/08/2025
Briefly

Germany's Foreign Ministry called for an end to the violence in Syria after over 200 deaths in two days of conflict between opposing forces. The clashes, primarily along the western coast, were driven by revenge attacks from fighters supporting the interim authorities against loyalists of ousted president Bashar al-Assad. The Ministry emphasized the need for peaceful resolutions and inclusive dialogue to prevent ongoing suffering. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock previously offered conditional support to Syria, focusing on the protection of minority groups.
We are shocked by the numerous victims in the western regions of Syria. We call on all sides to seek for peaceful solutions, national unity, inclusive political dialogue and transitional justice to overcome the spiral of violence and hatred.
The violence erupted after a series of attacks and ambushes, blamed on Assad's armed supporters, targeted transitional government security forces, along the country's western coast.
