Social Democrats lead Hamburg state election: projection DW 03/02/2025
Briefly

In the recent Hamburg regional elections, the Social Democrats (SPD) remain the largest party despite a drop in support to 33.5%. The center-right Christian Democrats (CDU) saw significant gains, predicted to come in second at 19.5%. The Greens secured third place with 17.5%, continuing their coalition with the SPD. The socialist Left Party and the far-right AfD also made strides, achieving over 10% and 8.5% respectively. Despite national setbacks, SPD Mayor Peter Tschentscher remains optimistic about local support, as Hamburg traditionally favors the SPD.
Support for the SPD fell to 33.5% from 39.2% in 2020, but it remains the largest party in Hamburg.
Hamburg has been led by a center-left coalition comprised of the SPD and the Greens for the last five years.
