Since its launch in 2005, Big Cartel has been a platform for artists and crafters to create customized online shops. However, as competitors like Etsy and Shopify gained prominence, Big Cartel found the need to evolve its identity. A recent rebrand, led by the agency How&How, revitalizes the platform's image to appeal to a broader audience of creative entrepreneurs. The new branding emphasizes simplicity, a spirited tone, and nods to its indie roots, while also transforming how Big Cartel is perceived in the crowded online marketplace.
In all truth we wanted to create something that felt the polar opposite of the glossy world of Shopify, something that spoke to the indie roots of Big Cartel.
The new brand identity embodies a real scrapper attitude, featuring a punchy tone and risograph-inspired textures that pay homage to our indie roots.
