The Kistefos Museum Foundation has launched a competition for a new standalone gallery set to open in 2031, inviting 28 architectural firms to prequalify. This gallery will house the collection of founder Christen Sveaas and will be situated within a scenic sculpture park that features works from renowned international artists. The design aims to incorporate sustainable practices reflective of its natural surroundings. A panel of established and emerging architects has been shortlisted, with the competition managed by Malcolm Reading Consultants, known for international architectural competitions. The winning design will be revealed in early autumn 2025.
The building will not only serve as a gallery but will be a work of art in itself.
The competition brief called for an original design that exemplifies sustainable practices that resonate with the museum's natural surroundings.
