Oilinwater approaches branding like an investigator, to build visual systems from rigorous research
""I remember there was no heating for a while, it was just me and my first Mac in this big open space.""
""It was not a symbolic choice, nor was it preparation for what would eventually become a larger studio. I simply quite liked the name.""
""The designer's first official project as Oilinwater was quite fittingly a visual identity for one of Brussels' smallest independent cinemas Styx.""
""The studio has collaborated with institutions, museums, and events across the city to build lasting design systems for their identity and scenography.""
Oilinwater is a creative studio founded by Matthieu Gorissen, located in an old industrial building in Brussels. The studio's name originated from a textbook belonging to Matthieu's father, a chemist. Initially, it was a personal label during his freelance career. The studio's first project was a visual identity for a small cinema, which led to collaborations with various cultural institutions in Brussels, focusing on design systems for identity and scenography.
