Hollywood actor Gene Hackman has passed away at the age of 95, a week after the death of his wife, Betsy Arakawa, who was 65. Authorities reported that Hackman likely died on February 17, due to advanced Alzheimer's disease which had significantly impaired his health and contributed to his heart disease. Meanwhile, Arakawa's death was associated with hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, linked to a rodent-related infection. Investigators noted both were found without signs of trauma, suggesting sudden health failures rather than accidents.
"Mr. Hackman showed evidence of advanced Alzheimer's disease," Chief Medical Investigator Heather Jarrell said. "He was in a very poor state of health. He had significant heart disease, and I think ultimately that's what resulted in his death."
Hackman was found in the entryway to his home. The Alzheimer's is believed to have contributed to his heart problems. Arakawa's death was linked to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a disease contracted from rodent droppings that can be fatal.
Both appeared to have suddenly fallen to the floor, with neither showing signs of blunt force trauma.
