Ebertfest Adds Barbara Kopple's Academy Award Winner "Harlan County U.S.A." | Ebertfest | Roger Ebert
Briefly

Ebertfest has announced the addition of three films to its lineup for the festival taking place from April 23-26 at the Virginia Theatre in Champaign. Among the films is the Academy Award-winning documentary HARLAN COUNTY U.S.A., directed by Barbara Kopple, which explores a violent coal miners' strike. The festival will also showcase A LITTLE PRAYER and COLOR BOOK, and all filmmakers will receive the 'Golden Thumb Award' at their Ebertfest debuts. A post-screening discussion with Kopple will further engage audiences about the impactful themes of her documentary.
The film retains all of its power, in the story of a miners' strike in Kentucky where the company employed armed goons to escort scabs into the mines, and the most effective picketers were the miners' wives-articulate, indomitable, courageous.
Barbara Kopple is an incredible documentarian who has crafted some of the most impactful films and highlighted important subject matter.
