Ellen Ramos, renowned for her LA-shaped churro and a unique pastry style developed at prominent LA restaurants, is opening Santa Canela in Highland Park. This bakery will offer a mix of Mexican and LA-inspired treats, including concha croissants and pepita financier cakes. Located in a historically rich building, the design features modern elements. Ramos aims to celebrate her roots while providing traditional Mexican drinks alongside her innovative pastries. The bakery also draws on expertise from Mexico City baker Odette Olavarri to enrich the menu.
"Santa Canela is so close to home because I grew up in El Sereno. Everyone came to Highland Park to hang out. It's exciting to be on Figueroa and showcase what I've been doing for the last couple of years."
"The modern room with custom marble counters and white oak walls and shelves goes into the former historic Security Trust and Savings Bank built in 1923. It's an elegant look from Studio Lena's Lena Kohl."
