Frank Zappa's Laurel Canyon home and studio sell for $5.25 million
"The whimsical 1930s Tudor, with its herringbone brickwork and half timbering, includes the recording studio and rehearsal space that Zappa had built during his ownership as well as "the vault" - a climate-controlled, multiroom space where he kept a secret collection of music and film recordings."
"The musician-songwriter-composer infused rock 'n' roll with elements of blues, jazz and classical music during his four-decade career. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Zappa released more than 60 albums during his lifetime, with his estate releasing another 40 or more albums posthumously."
Frank Zappa's longtime Hollywood Hills West residence in Laurel Canyon sold for $5.25 million after being owned by his family since his 1993 death. Originally purchased in the late 1960s for $74,000, the 1930s Tudor estate features seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a recording studio with rehearsal space that Zappa built. The property includes a climate-controlled vault containing his secret music and film collection, cathedral-ceiling kitchen, formal dining room, library, and refined living room with expansive windows. Outdoor amenities encompass a rooftop tennis court, swimming pool, spa, stone courtyard, and two guest cottages plus an attached guest apartment. The property listed in June for $5.495 million and sold within approximately one month.
