Kiea McCann and Dlava Mohammed were tragically killed in a road crash in Monaghan on July 31, 2023, while being driven to a debs ball. Their driver, Anthony McGinn, who was later sentenced to seven years in prison for dangerous driving, ignored pleas from his passengers to slow down while traveling at speeds of up to 151 km/h. The court emphasized the reckless nature of McGinn's actions, which not only led to the fatalities but also caused serious injury to another teen, Avin Mohammed. McGinn was subsequently banned from driving for 15 years.
Judge John Aylmer stated McGinn showed a reckless disregard and drove at grossly reckless speed, breaching the trust placed in him to drive the teenagers safely.
Evidence revealed McGinn was traveling at speeds of up to 151 km/h, and he ignored pleas from his passengers to slow down before the crash.
