Domestic abuse support workers from Solace Women's Aid in Tower Hamlets are planning to strike indefinitely, starting on February 14, over fears that proposed funding mergers could jeopardize support for victims. The Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs) are part of the United Voices of the World union, which reported a unanimous vote for strike action, amid concerns that staffing cuts could reduce their team by a third. Solace insists they will maintain support levels while exploring redeployment opportunities. This action aims to protect vital services amidst ongoing concerns of domestic violence in the area.
Our members refuse to stand by while jobs are axed and survivors are left without the support they need. They have called indefinite strike action which shows their determination.
The service provides free support, advocacy and referrals to high-risk survivors of domestic violence. Solace managed 1,139 referrals and supported 227 victim-survivors in the borough.
