The prosecution said it believed that Hiby was guilty of 39 of the 40 offences with which he was charged, which, as well as rape and domestic abuse, include multiple breaches of restraining orders, assault, drug and driving offences. Police forces must do more to target domestic abusers who drive women to suicide, the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) has said. It will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will be held accountable. We tackle violence against women and girls every day of the year, preventing harm and bringing offenders to justice. We don't do this alone but work with partners to identify and address the societal issues at the root of gender-based violence, so that we can stop abusive behaviour before it begins.

In the year leading up to March 2025, one in eight women in England and Wales had been a victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault or stalking. Almost 200 rapes are recorded every day. And on average, three women are killed by men in the UK every single week. Just pause and consider that. There has been plenty of tough talk on violence against women and girls over the past decade but too little action.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office charged Cabrera with one count of murder after the remains of 33-year-old Sheylla Cabrera, also known as Sheylla Lisbet Gutiérrez Rosillo, were discovered in Angeles National Forest on Aug. 16. She had been reported missing four days earlier. On Aug. 13, authorities uncovered surveillance footage showing Cabrera dragging a bulky covered object from the Lancaster Boulevard apartment building where he lived with his wife and their children. Officials suspected foul play and began an investigation.

In Becky's* case, her ex-partner had seemed like the best thing since sliced bread when they first met and she was just 18 years old. He would buy her gifts, take her on fancy holidays and encouraged her to move in with him after six months of dating. Given that he had a decent job and had taken control of the household bills, she was unaware that he was avoiding paying council tax and was racking up significant debts in her name.

An inquest earlier this year found that Georgia Barter, 32, experienced years of abuse at the hands of Thomas Bignell. The inquest, in Walthamstow, London, heard that even though Bignell was known to at least four police forces, officers were not always able to access information about previous reports or arrests on the police national database (PND) when they were called out to attend to incidents involving Barter.

Trista Ann Spicer, who said she killed her boyfriend in self-defense after months of abuse and concealed his body in what police described as a makeshift tomb in her San Bernardino backyard for eight years, was convicted of second-degree murder on Monday, Nov. 10. Jurors also found true a sentencing enhancement that Spicer used a deadly weapon to kill 42-year-old Eric Mercado. In this case, the weapon was a cast-iron skillet.

I am a 66-year-old woman, married with two daughters. I am 5-foot-2 and weigh 108 pounds. This is not something new. But whenever there is a gathering with my in-laws, at least one of them says I need to put meat on my bones in those exact words. I think it's rude and offensive. I am certainly not telling any of them to take meat off their bones. I cannot help my size, metabolism or genetics, and I am tired of the comments.

The Washington Capitals announced Sunday that they have relieved assistant coach Mitch Love of his duties following an NHL investigation into his personal conduct. Love, who joined the Capitals in 2023, has been on team-imposed leave since September pending the investigation's results. Over the offseason, Love was in the running for several head coaching positions around the league, with reported ties to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, and Seattle Kraken.

The grandchildren of the last woman to be hanged in Britain are seeking a posthumous pardon, saying she was physically and emotionally abused by her partner before she killed him. Nightclub hostess Ruth Ellis, from Rhyl, Denbighshire, was executed on 13 July 1955 after being convicted of murdering her lover David Blakely. She was hanged at London's Holloway Prison. "We are determined to do what we can to right this historic injustice and honour not only Ruth but all victims of domestic abuse who have been let down by the criminal justice system," said her granddaughter Laura Enston.
