Five people were hospitalized after a fire destroyed part of disused flats in Southwark, highlighting the risks associated with abandoned buildings and fire safety.
Emergency services were called to Newcomen Street just after 4am, where twelve fire engines and approximately 80 firefighters worked to control the situation.
The Brigade's spokesperson noted that the fire affected half the ground floor, parts of the first floor, and the connecting staircase, underscoring the extent of the damage.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with the London Fire Brigade emphasizing the importance of fire escape hoods that protect individuals from hazardous fire gases.
