According to Kantar, grocery price inflation in the UK reached 3.3% in the four weeks leading to 26 January, with sales increasing by 4.3%. The easing pressure on consumers resulted from an uptick in supermarket promotions, which increased by £274 million year-on-year, accounting for 27.2% of sales. Despite this temporary reprieve, supermarkets caution that forthcoming increases in the minimum wage and employer's national insurance, as announced in the Autumn Budget of October 2024, could lead to higher prices for consumers in the near future.
