Over 1,000 emergency service personnel participated in London's largest-ever simulated terrorist attack, a coordinated effort involving police, firefighters, and medical teams. The exercise, set in The O2 arena, aimed to prepare responders for handling major incidents. Chief Superintendent Kris Wright highlighted the invaluable learning outcomes, emphasizing the need for readiness despite no specific threat command behind the simulation. The UK's terrorism threat level remains substantial, highlighting the importance of vigilance and effective collaboration across agencies to ensure public safety during emergencies.
This not only benefits us in London, but we will share any learning we can with other emergency services and concert venues across the country.
The challenges of dealing with any major incident at a venue on the size and scale of The O2 are extraordinary.
I want to emphasise that this was also not carried out in response to any specific threat or intelligence.
Exercises like this mean that when our firefighters are mobilised alongside our partners, they will know how each organization responds to terrorism.
