'Survivors left without support': Domestic abuse workers to strike over proposed job cuts
Briefly

Domestic abuse workers in Tower Hamlets have overwhelmingly voted to strike indefinitely due to proposed job cuts that threaten vital services for victims, primarily women and children. The United Voices of the World (UVW) union reported a striking 100% in favor of action, with 92% turnout. The proposed cuts could reduce the workforce by a third, potentially jeopardizing critical support such as advocacy and navigation of systemic barriers faced by victims. Tower Hamlets has a high rate of domestic abuse, highlighting the urgent need for these services.
Cutting one third of our team will result in further harm to victims of domestic abuse in Tower Hamlets. Our main priority with this strike is to highlight the importance of our service and the impact on the community if the team is reduced.
We want victims of domestic violence in Tower Hamlets to receive a high-quality service, but these cuts will not only prevent us from doing so but also leave many victims without any support.
Our members refuse to stand by while jobs are axed and survivors are left without the support they need.
The service, which receives funding from Tower Hamlets Council, provides free emotional support to high-risk survivors of domestic violence, advocating and providing them with information.
