Celtic Football Club has hired an independent consultancy, Fairhurst, to address fan complaints about policing during the last Old Firm match on March 16. Complaints arose regarding the heavy police presence and restrictions on fans, as 90 were denied entry due to refusal of searches under special powers granted to officers. In response, Celtic aims to review supporter feedback and ensure safety. Police defended their actions, asserting they were necessary for public safety, with significant seizures of pyrotechnics noted during the match which ended 3-2 in favor of Rangers.
The club previously stated it had received complaints about events outside the stadium following the Old Firm match on 16 March, which would be reviewed.
Celtic wishes to engage with Police Scotland after the game, the first attended by away fans since 2023, amid a ticket dispute.
Ch Supt Stevie Dolan described the searches as "proportionate" aiming to maintain public safety and address potential disruptions effectively.
