'Don't stop prayers and playing God Save the King before meetings', council urged
Briefly

In February, Havering Council discussed potential changes to its constitution aimed at shortening the duration of full council meetings, which can exceed two hours. This includes proposals to move the pre-meeting prayer held by the mayor's chaplain to a separate room and to stop playing the national anthem at the end of meetings. While there are no immediate plans for these changes, Conservative councillor David Taylor expressed strong opposition, asserting that such alterations would disrespect cherished traditions without enhancing meeting efficiency.
To remove these important traditions in the name of saving three or four minutes is a trashing of tradition. It won't improve anything about the way meetings work and won't improve anything for residents.
Prayer humbles us and, much like the anthem, reminds us that we are both servants and here for the greater good.
