Journalist Graydon Carter: If there was another 9/11 this week, I don't think the world would rush to support us'
Briefly

Graydon Carter, renowned journalist and former editor of Vanity Fair, has released his memoir, 'When the Going Was Good.' He shares insights on the current political climate, expressing concerns about Donald Trump's impact on America's global standing. While often critiquing Trump, Carter also highlights the importance of strong leadership in the U.S. He recounts his journey into writing the memoir after retirement. The book delves into his experiences in a changing media landscape, revealing his relationship with co-writer James Fox and the evolution of his thoughts over time.
Before we talk magazines, as a Canadian-born non-fan of Trump, how's the view over there? Well, I think very highly of Mark Carney [the new Canadian prime minister]. He's not going to take any grief.
But the sad thing is that in two months, Trump has made [the US] the enemy of the world. If there was another 9/11 this week, I don't think the world would rush to support us in the same way.
I never, ever thought of it before. But I was having lunch with James Fox about seven years ago, and he said: if you ever do a memoir, I'd love to work on it with you.
But your retirement from Vanity Fair opened up time for the memoir. I write for a living, so it wasn't the same as when he worked with Keith Richards.
