New knife amnesty bin installed in Woolwich town centre
Briefly

A new knife amnesty bin has been installed in Woolwich town centre aimed at reducing knife crime. This is the third bin in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, following successful installations in Abbey Wood and Eltham. These bins provide a safe and anonymous way for residents to dispose of dangerous weapons, contributing to community safety. Since July 2024, 214 weapons have been collected from the two existing bins. Local leaders emphasize the importance of these initiatives in addressing the serious issue of knife crime affecting the community.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich installed the bin last week to help tackle knife crime in the area.
Knives have taken too many lives in Greenwich, and knife crime continues to have a devastating effect on our communities.
Weapons can be deposited safely in the bins, which are securely bolted to a concrete base.
The bins in Abbey Wood and Eltham have resulted in 214 weapons being taken off the streets.
