Plans to revamp Deptford High Street have been revealed - with more pedestrianisation

Lewisham Council has proposed plans to close Deptford High Street to traffic on more days than currently implemented, envisioning a fully pedestrianised area during set hours. The initiative, sparked by a survey revealing that 93 percent of visitors used sustainable transportation, aims to create a vibrant, clean, and inviting environment with improved seating and greenery. Public consultation is ongoing to involve local residents and businesses, ensuring that the proposed changes cater to community needs and enhance the shopping experience.

The road between New Cross Road and Hamilton Street will be fully pedestrianised for set hours, enhancing the shopping experience with new seating, greenery, and waste management.

Lewisham Council’s surveys indicated that 93 percent of visitors walked, cycled, or used public transport to reach Deptford High Street, supporting the push for a no-car zone.
