Richness, complexity and joy: this London show offers a long-overdue celebration of British working class life
Briefly

Lives Less Ordinary highlights the underrepresentation of working-class artists and life within the UK's cultural institutions through a significant exhibition of over 150 works by 60 artists. Set in Two Temple Place, a luxurious building historically linked to working-class artists, the exhibition reveals the tension between opulence and working-class representation. Curated by Samantha Manton, it aims to challenge clichéd portrayals of working-class life, addressing the broader issues of class disparities in the art world and fostering a shift toward inclusivity and recognition of diverse experiences.
"I've witnessed first-hand the dismissal by art institutions of socio-economic disparity. I've spent a lot of my life assimilating," says curator Samantha Manton.
"It seemed that there were only a few ways in which we were allowed to be seen: in the workplace, in terms of protest or in some kind of a dilapidated environment," Manton says.
