'Shocking' that Bord na Mona will not reveal sale price for bin collection business, Union writes in letter to Opposition
Briefly

Siptu expresses serious concerns over Bord na Móna management's decision to sell Bord na Móna Recycling, highlighting implications for workers and their terms of employment. The sale price is undisclosed due to a non-disclosure agreement, sparking outrage among union officials. Siptu members are considering industrial action as they fear for their rights after the sale. Calls for political intervention are made, urging the matter to be discussed in the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment before approval. The Environment Minister is critiqued for his limited oversight in the situation.
"It is, quite frankly, shocking that the sale of a public asset could be the subject of a NDA between the parties," said the letter to politicians from Adrian Kane, Siptu divisional organiser.
The minister has also adopted a very reductive approach to his ministerial role in this matter; stating that his office concerns are in relation to 'corporate governance oversight,'" said Mr Kane.
We would accordingly, request that this matter be also pursued by representatives," added Siptu in their communication, highlighting the need for political intervention.
Collective bargaining will be jeopardised for the workers concerned if the government sanctions the disposal of the business, warned Owen Reidy, the general secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
