During my early days at University College Dublin, I felt overwhelmed yet determined, desperately seeking companionship in a sea of fellow students. My mindset was set on gathering friendships through the numerous societies I joined, despite feelings of anxiety and isolation that cloaked my initial days on campus.
It was hard to escape the sense of inferiority in my first few weeks at university. Surrounded by thousands, I worried I’d be the only one failing to connect, which made any attempt at socializing feel even more daunting.
