A recent study revealed that narcissistic men are notably more receptive to negative gossip about themselves than their non-narcissistic counterparts. Conducted by researchers from several institutions, including Duke University, the study engaged 400 college students to evaluate their feelings towards various types of gossip. The findings demonstrated that while most participants favored positive gossip over no gossip, narcissistic individuals preferred any mention, even derogatory. These results challenge the notion that all individuals universally reject negative publicity, showcasing a unique acceptance among narcissists due to their self-focus and awareness of their narcissistic traits.
During the study, participants were asked to rate how much they agree with the statement 'I am a narcissist,' revealing that narcissists often acknowledge their traits.
Despite most individuals preferring not to be gossiped about, 64% of participants preferred positive gossip over being ignored, with narcissists showing a distinct acceptance of negative talk.
