The shooting incident on Miami Beach, where two men mistaken for Palestinians were shot, has prompted calls for hate crime prosecution from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and other Muslim organizations. They highlight this event as part of a wider trend of anti-Arab and anti-Muslim incidents in the region. The shooter, Mordechai Brafman, is currently held on attempted murder charges, but the context of misunderstanding the victims’ identities raises significant concerns regarding community safety and growing hate in society.
There is no place for hate in this community, and we definitely are looking for some kind of investigation from the federal, state and local law enforcement to consider this a hate crime.
It is not an isolated incident, because our children in the schools are being called Hamas.
