Mexico waits for Google response before filing lawsuit over Gulf dispute
Briefly

Mexico is challenging Google’s decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America for US users, challenging the legality and sovereignty implications behind this change. President Claudia Sheinbaum announced intentions to pursue legal action if Google does not comply with Mexico's demand to restore the original name. The dual naming arises from US policies following a Trump executive order, which aims to rebrand geographical locations in the spirit of honoring American greatness, but it has sparked significant dispute concerning territorial rights.
Under no circumstance will Mexico accept the renaming of a geographic zone within its own territory and under its jurisdiction, Mexican authorities also said in a statement.
We will wait for Google's response and if not, we will proceed to court, Sheinbaum said at a news briefing on Monday, in which she shared a letter from Google addressed to her government saying its policy on the name will not change.
