Nathaniel Bernard Jennings, a promising freshman defensive lineman at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul, was shot and killed during an altercation with Stephan Dieujuste, a former college basketball player, in Downtown Melbourne, Florida. The incident occurred on Mother's Day weekend, with Jennings dying shortly after being rushed to the hospital. Dieujuste, now charged with manslaughter, stated he acted in self-defense. Surveillance footage is being reviewed as police investigate the motive behind the argument. Coach Matt Moore highlighted Jennings' exceptional character and athletic achievements after his untimely death.

Dieujuste, a former Eastern Florida State College point guard, claimed the shooting was in self-defense during his questioning by police at the scene.
